Chorleywood Young Musician of the Year

Welcome to the Chorleywood Young Musician of the Year Competition

From 2027, we are pleased to be introducing a new name for our well-established and highly regarded young musician competition.

Formerly the Rickmansworth Young Musician of the Year Competition, it will now be known as the Chorleywood Young Musician of the Year Competition.

While the name is changing, our purpose remains the same: to inspire, encourage and celebrate outstanding young musicians, giving them the opportunity to perform, build confidence and showcase their talent before expert adjudicators and supportive audiences.

The new name reflects the role of Chorleywood Music, which has organised, developed and funded the competition for the past five years. It has become an important part of our charitable mission to nurture young musical talent and create meaningful performance opportunities.

A highlight for the overall winner is the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the Chorleywood Orchestra - an invaluable experience of performing with a full orchestra before a public audience.

Our name has changed, but our commitment has not. We remain dedicated to providing an inspiring, welcoming and professionally run competition that celebrates musical excellence and helps the next generation of musicians flourish.

We look forward to welcoming competitors to this exciting new chapter.

About CYMY

Chorleywood Music encourages music making in our local community. It is keen to develop and encourage talented, young performers in our local area and neighbouring counties and holds an annual Young Musicians’ Competition. Chorleywood Music is delighted to present the 2027 event.

The Chorleywood Young Musician of the Year (formally the Rickmansworth Young Musician of the Year) has been held annually since 1983. It has attracted high calibre students of classical music from a wide area of Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, and London.

This prestigious event has been the launch pad for our competitors reaching the finals of the BBC Young Musician Competition and international events and for many of our young performers making careers in music.
